Chilkoot Trail Guided Tour (Canadian Side)
Follow in the footsteps of the gold rush stampeders over the legendary Chilkoot Pass. For the 2025 season, the Chilkoot Trail Guided Tour will be offered exclusively on the Canadian side, as the U.S. portion of the trail remains temporarily closed. This provides a rare opportunity to experience the trail in a quieter, more serene setting. Follow in the footsteps of the “stampeders” as we trace the historic Chilkoot Trail—crossed by over 100,000 men and women, adventurers and opportunists alike, who made the grueling journey to the Klondike goldfields in the late 1890s.
Important Information:
-
- During the hike, you must carry your own luggage/backpack. Porter service is not provided.

- Ensure you have all required travel documents, including a valid passport and necessary visas for entry into the USA. Yukon Wide Adventures is not responsible if you are refused entry.
- All historic remains and artifacts on the trail are protected by Parks Canada and both the American and Canadian governments. Do not take any objects as souvenirs.
Chilkoot Trail Guided Tour – Itinerary
Chilkoot Trail Adventure – 8-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Whitehorse
Welcome to the Yukon! Arrive in Whitehorse and check in to your hotel. Spend the day exploring the city’s vibrant downtown, riverfront paths, and local shops. In the evening, meet your guide for a trip briefing and gear check to prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 2: Journey to Bennett
After breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your hotel. We’ll begin with a Parks Canada orientation session to review trail rules and history. Then, enjoy a scenic one-hour drive to the historic town of Carcross. You’ll have time to explore this picturesque village before boarding the White Pass & Yukon Route train to our first camp at Bennett—marking the start of our Chilkoot adventure.
Day 3: Bennett to Lindeman City
Following a hearty breakfast, we begin hiking along Bennett Lake toward Lindeman Lake. The trail is rich in Gold Rush history, and we’ll pass remnants of the Klondike era as we make our way to Lindeman campground for the night.
Day 4: Lindeman to Happy Camp
Today’s hike brings us deeper into the mountains as we gain elevation toward Happy Camp. This alpine stretch sets the stage for tomorrow’s ascent to the famous Chilkoot Pass. We’ll enjoy breathtaking views and a peaceful night at camp.
Day 5: Chilkoot Pass Summit & Deep Lake
We’ll leave most of our gear safely stored in bear lockers and take on the Chilkoot Pass with light packs. After reaching the summit and taking in the incredible scenery, we’ll rest over a long lunch before continuing a short 4 km (2.5 miles) hike to Deep Lake campground.
Day 6: Deep Lake to Bare Loon
As we descend back into the boreal forest, the landscape changes dramatically. We’ll make our way to Bare Loon campground—our final night immersed in the wilderness.
Day 7: Return to Bennett & Fly Out
We complete the last leg of the trail and return to Bennett by midday. Around 1 PM, a small charter plane will fly us back to Whitehorse. Once in town, we’ll transfer you to your hotel and celebrate your accomplishment (optional group dinner).
Day 8: Departure Day
Enjoy a relaxing morning in Whitehorse before heading home. Your hotel offers a free shuttle service to the airport. Safe travels!
Daily Distance: 9–10 km (5–6 miles)
Max Elevation Gain: 500 meters (1,600 feet) per day
