Chilkoot Trail – Self Guided

Chilkoot Trail - Self Guided

Follow the footsteps of the Stampeders over the Chilkoot Pass

Route: Skagway / Dyea to Lake Bennett
Distance: 53 km (33 miles)
Duration: 4-6 days (self-guided)
Elevation: Chilkoot Pass – 1,150 meters (3,750 feet)

The Chilkoot Trail was originally a trade route used by First Nations, who carried fish oil and seafood over the high pass to exchange for leather and furs. In 1897, when news of gold in the Klondike spread, thousands of prospectors—known as “stampeders”—rushed north. Within weeks, more than 100,000 people attempted the journey, though over half never reached their destination.

This self-guided trekking adventure allows you to experience the historic trail at your own pace. We provide assistance with organization, itinerary planning, permit reservations, and transportation logistics.
